So...after all this work..and still having a bit of issues I am liking what is has done to my truck....I haven't had the time to take out the chip and check the conections...so still feels like I have one setting....but man...what a setting it is...
Here's my question.....for those of you who had the same thing done (stage 1s....chip (stock, 40hp tow, 80hp econo, extreme) 4:10 gears..or not
Can you describe the power difference between the 4 position....
Mine now....smokes a bit when I hammer down....hits about 22-25 boost....will squeal the tires fairly easily...accelerates faster than stock ever did....and...takes WAY more fuel....
I might have issues with my chip....but that will be looked after this weekend....I'm just trying to ge a feel from you guys....who have it and have it working like it should....what should I be feeling?
BUT...if I only had one setting...the one I have....is pretty darn fast....but then again....might just be stock programing with the injectors....Tony might program the chip to take full advantage of the stages 1....but no "extra" performance untill the chip is diealed....who knows...
I have my dp tuner chip with 4 positions and have not reprogrammed it for the stage 1s. Rubberduck said that after he reprogrammed his for the stage 1s he could break the rear tires loose on his dually. I cant even do that with my single rear wheels.
I can tell a difference between my settings (stock, 40hp tow, 80hp econ, 140hp extreme)
-Stock can barly get a haze of smoke at full throttle. boost ~22
-Tow smokes quite a bit at lower rpms but clears up fast boost ~25
-Econ doesnt smoke as bad as tow but seems to bring on the power around 2000 rpms then it smokes a bit. boost ~28
-Extreme just smokes, you can drive in it everyday but the throttle gets figgity sometimes and people behind you seem to wave their hand in front of their face like your truck just let one rip. boost ~33
I have a upipipe leak that lowered my boost numbers a bit but you get the idea.
so far...for me...no difference....all same "feeling".....but I have a feeling my switch came "undone...or partly undone" when I installed it...so I might be on the "default" setting...have to check that out
While i only have the original stock injectors, i have a noticable difference in both settings.
I say both, as i only wanted the tow and extreme settings. The other two are high idle, and a no start setting.
I use the "tow" position all the time, and have gotten used to it, but i know it was noticeable from day 1 as being hotter than stock. I notice very little extra "smoke", but i do know there is a bit of carbon accumulating on the mudflap behind the tail pipe. It tows my 6 ton trailer very well even loaded to capacity, and takes a long grade to hit 1300 degrees on the pyro. Unloaded i've never approached the "melting point" yet.
The extreme setting, i don't use much, once a month or so, mainly to give the little imports a small surprise, and to give the engine a good run. The first thing i notice when flipping it, is the engine idle is a little higher, and has a very noticeable lope to it. Usually smooths out after a bit though. Second and more noticeable, is the very touchy throttle pedal. There isn't much of any buffer there, it's instantly got power once you hear the click of the switch. I've yet to flog it to redline, but have seen upper teens or so of boost here as well, don't think it's gotten over 20 psi, but my guages are set up under the ashtray, so not as convenient to see as a pillar mount. I can hit 1300 degrees on the pyro pretty quickly too. I won't even try pulling my trailer in this setting.
The switch has a simple plug on it that plugs directly to the chip in the pcm. Check it, and also did you take your time and remove the pcm to clean the contacts for the initial install? I wouldnt think the programming itself is an issue
Chip fixed...it was the plug....HOLLY (Bleep)!!!! OK...so without the switch it might of defaulted to the 40hp setting or something...cause 3rd and 4th position ....
Will go play later on....find some unsuspecting Ricers.....and smoke them out.....
Pyro is still acting up...but I don't have time to fix it today....it works 95% of the time.....so I am carefull..
Glad that was all that was wrong. Whats going on with your pyro? I had to replace the sensor itself in the manifold because I pulled up on the wires and it burnt the wiring under the metal protector because it was touching the manifold.
Ok...so I went playing with my truck....chip is working, but I find that the extreme setting is useless....under hard acceleration...maybe 5 seconds....EGTs hit 1400F.....Boost was off the chart.....and wasn't really going any faster than 80hp setting....just WAY more scary inside because I was at the limit of the EGT and boost...my check engine light came on...I figure too much boost....
Anyone use the extreme?....I'm thinking of sending it back to Tony to have something more usefull put in...a 120HP...or 100HP....or High Idle for the winter.....who knows....
Anyone can convince me to keep the insane (extreme) setting?
Your check engine light is from your stock hpop, time to upgrade to a 17 degree superduty pump. Mine does the same thing under a long hard pull. I love the extreme setting but I know I need a few more supporting mods to keep the egts in check. Sounds like an intercooler is in your near future also.
What will that do to my truck? Does it mean getting more fuel in?.....What does that do to my wallet....Does it more allot of money coming out? I think I will live with it....and save for a tranny transplant..cause I have a feeling that will go first

Intercooler cools the air that your boosting before entering the engine which does wounders in lowering your egt temps.
