i recently got a turbo and parts off a 93 turbo diesel everything is there except for the valve cover w/ the hole for the cdr (driverside valve cover) and the connectors from the air intake to it my question is can i do without it ,or just use a valve cover mesh vent (one of those tiny cone filter looking things ) , or do i need to order the 118 dollar valve cover from ats ???
what should i do fellers im lost on this one

I had a similar situation when I bought a used 088 ATS kit. Its best if you can hook it up as per OEM, since the turbo intake will acually pull a vacuum when the engine is anywhere above idle. This will reduce the likelyhood of an oil leak later on. Diesels also have alot of blowby to begin with, so it could get messy if you try to use a filtered vent.
I opted to modify the valve cover myself. All I did was carfully cut a hole in it, and used a small piece of steel sheet metal to make a baffle over the vent hole (I tack wielded it, but others have brazed them). I was warned that if I didn't put a baffle in, it would cause high oil consumption.
Another option that I came across, was to route a vent hose frome the CRD on the airbox to the oil filler, I think this is the style that banks used. There are different styles of injector pump gear housings, some have an unused hatch on the face with the oil filler neck intergral to the top of cover. Mine had a bolt on filler neck, there was no extra cover to use.
In theory, you could remove the extra cover, and install a through-wall fitting to connect to the vent hose.
Banks makes an aluminum spacer, about 1" thick, with a 5/8" or so nipple on it to hook the hose to, that bolts on between the filler neck/cover plate and IP housing. I'm not sure of the price, but, that's how they handle plumbing in the CDR on their turbo setups...
I'm currently running a RDT off of it, because I've been lazy since I got rid of the Banks box filter assy, and haven't built a mount for the CDR on the new intake piping....
