I have noticed that if my AC is set to 60 and fan on high with the AC on, that it isn't cooling very fast until I turn on the AUTO button, then it seems like the system kicks into overdrive and it blows colder and harder. No cheap comments...
I think a major problem with the design of the a/c in these trucks is that the engine cooling fan just does not turn enough to draw sufficient air over the condensor when the engine is at normal temps. I solved this issue by mounting twin auxillary fans in front of the condensor wired in series.
They are controlled by the a/c compressor relay and i use an upfitter switch to cut them off on long highway trips. The ram air at highway speeds is plenty to cool the condensor. Benefits to all of this is lower head pressures (increases service life of compressor) at low speeds and chilly a/c when used with remote start. Since I wired the fans in series they run at half speed (more than enough air) and are quiet. I'll try to get a pic of the installed fans posted tonight.

"Some 2004-2007 F-Super Duty, 2004-2005 Excursion, and 2004-2007 F-650/750 vehicles may exhibit a lack of air conditioning (A/C) cooling, due to desiccant material clogging the evaporator core orifice tube."
Also, what temps did your tech measure at the output side of the evaporator (or at vents)?
Hope this helps
Thanks for the TSB, I don't know if my mechanic checked the hi/lo pressures, but he's usually pretty thorough. I'll go ahead and schedule an appt for the dealership
I have a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer V-8 and have it at AC MAX and i have a temp gauge in the vent and it reads 40 degrees, is that good or should it be colder???
Mine does that too. I usually have it on the upper/lower vent position (first position clockwise from off) and with the temp set to "cold" it blows cold air, cold enough that my bare arms get cold to the touch from the upper vents, and definitely much colder than the outside temperature. I actually haven't had to use the a/c yet, but I'll probably try it out this summer when I need recirc instead of vent.
My 07 does the same thing, doesn't get real cold. Using the upper/lower vents engages the A/C compressor and blows cold air. I think that's the way they were made. My 99 Ranger did the same thing and even mentioned it in the owner's manual that the A/C would work in that position. Thought all Fords were that way until I tried it my wife's 02 Escape and it didn't work that way. Hmmm!
40 degrees is very good for an A/C system. When I checked my truck last week, it only getsdown to 50 to 55 degrees.
Is that in recirculation mode with windows up? I would think it should get colder than 50-55 after a while in recirc mode with the windows up. I think a 25* drop across the coil is average for the 250, is it not?
I still have not tracked down the issue with mine. Even with the windows up and in recirculation mode, after 10 or so minutes it still only gets down to 53-55*. Boo. I think my pressures were 200ish and 40ish.......I think. Can't remember now. I just know it was kind of low. The ambient air was 80* or so at the time.
My '07 F-250 (see sig) manual AC isn't as cold as my old 1995 F-150 XLT with manual AC. It's enough to keep me cool on a warm day, but the AC unit won't chill me out of the truck the way my old F-150 could. I swear you could have made ice cubes with that truck.
Was your '95 R-12 or R-134A? Personally I've noticed a bit of difference in performance of older R-12 based systems and the R-134A systems.

Yes, recirculation with the windows up. I too think it should be colder than that, but it keeps me comfortable so I'm not going to mess with it right now.
Last week, I replaced the A/C condenser, receiver/dryer, and the high-pressure compressor hose on my wife's minivan. After pulling a vacuum and recharging it, it gets down to 38 degrees on a 95 degree day. Now that's cold.

That is worthy of being jealous. Especially with the humidity down here.
