Somewhat disappointed in my '06 superduty CC PSD. The air conditioning is just cool, not ice cold like my expedition was. Had my local mechanic check it out today, it was low on refridgerant (2.02lbs vs spec 2.82) He recharged it but the temp seems unchanged. Is this the nature of the beast or should I have Ford service it under the 36,000 warranty?
I've got an 03 250 crew KR with the 6.0 and don't have that issue. As a matter of fact, mine seems to blow COLD air without running the A/C. But, I've also said that the heater in the truck will run the devil out in less than 10 minutes from a cold winter start!
My '07 F-250 (see sig) manual AC isn't as cold as my old 1995 F-150 XLT with manual AC. It's enough to keep me cool on a warm day, but the AC unit won't chill me out of the truck the way my old F-150 could. I swear you could have made ice cubes with that truck.

Mine does that too. I usually have it on the upper/lower vent position (first position clockwise from off) and with the temp set to "cold" it blows cold air, cold enough that my bare arms get cold to the touch from the upper vents, and definitely much colder than the outside temperature. I actually haven't had to use the a/c yet, but I'll probably try it out this summer when I need recirc instead of vent.
Mine does it as well, checked under the hood with it set on those positions, and the A/C compressor clicks on. I figured something was wrong with it. I know the A/C runs on defrost to dehumidify the air over the windshield. Haven't had a chance to investigate it, actually forgot about it 'till now.Wonder why that is, and I guess it's more common than I thought?
The A/C compressor in our trucks runs in all positions except floor vent. It just doesn't run very often if not needed. Ford did this to keep it lubed up and to prevent corrosion.
This is also something that can change because of the way a particular dealership is set up. This is a variable that the customer rarely knows about. Any more, all ac servicing garages have recovery/recycling equipment. It is very easy to recharge someones ac with air (yes, oxygen). The gauges will still read somewhat normal when recharging, just not as cold. Request that they use "virgin" freon (r134a).
Won't the high side actually read higher ( if it was weighed properley ) due to the fact that air is a non condensable? If he actually has air in it, I would recomend as VLONEY have to get it evacuated and recharged ASAP, since polyester oil reacts badly to air, which normally contains moisture.
Air actually will compress, but it has no cooling capability. It will look like both gauges are "closer together". Also, remember that 134a isn't as efficient as r12. Mid 40's in the temp should be possible tho.
I have developed a close friendship with this independant mechanic. I watched him withdraw the 2.02lbs, drain off any oil (not much) and then recharge with 2.82lbs. Is there something he did wrong? I guess I coulda waited for the dealership to get around to it but I have a trip soon and they didn't have time.
I realize that air will compress, but it will not condense, causing higher pressures, and temp off the condensor, creating a lot less effencency, and shorter life on the system. You need true liquid just before the TEV to get the proper super heat off the evaporator.
He probably charged it properly, but as stated before, use virgin refrigerant, it's cheap enough. Was the system pulled inot a vacume before recharging it?
Mine will freeze me out of the truck. However, it takes about 15-20 minutes before it's able to get really cold. I run it on recycle mode all the time when the A/C is on.

"Some 2004-2007 F-Super Duty, 2004-2005 Excursion, and 2004-2007 F-650/750 vehicles may exhibit a lack of air conditioning (A/C) cooling, due to desiccant material clogging the evaporator core orifice tube."
my 2000 F250 has COLD a/c........but my old 97 F250 had "so-so" A/C. It turns out that my compressor was leaking slightly, I had tried re-charging it myself, but it didn't help. Had to replace it, then it worked great!
