My overhead console has the readout that just shows temperatures and direction. I'd like to install the better one that shows the mpg (knowing it may not be accurate) and etc.
Is this a simple job of finding one and plugging it into the overhead console? If so, any lines on where to get a good deal on one?
I have a 2000. The display only shows outside temp (which is never right) and compass direction. It doesn't have a 'mode' button, just a select button that lets you change the temperature reading from F to C
Sorry Hutch, I don't have an answer to your questions.
I just wanted to chime in and agree with jas88, my overhead MPG average has always been within a couple tenths of calculating it by hand. But then I always reset it with every tank too. I think a lot of people don't reset it and then it won't be accurate for each tank, but will be accurate over the life of the vehicle (or whatever time frame you reset it to).
Just talked to a Ford Mechanic on this and he said the plugs are different...bummer. Oh well. I'm a bit surprised they ran that different of a harness through them, but such is life.
Keep in mind there might be a module to install as well. As far as your temperature being inaccurate, there is a temp sensor mounted just below the hood latch at the front of the vehicle. This is usually a very cheap part (less than $20) and very easy to replace. This is where that display gets its reading.
