Hey everybody
I've got a stupid question
When changing coils, for some strange reason I used dielectric grease not only inside the coil boot but also inside the electrical connection (where the electrical connector connects to the coil). Now, I am still geting some hesitation and what seems to be a misfire . Could that be because I put the dialectric grease where I should not have?
If you got grease on the metal connecing the Coil pack to the plug and the circuit is not completeing, yes this will keep the new coil pack from working.
I should probably clarify it a little more. I've got individual coils. I am talking about the electrical connector that goes into the coil that I have used grease inside.By the way it is 01 Exp 5.4
My understanding of dielectric grease is that its two purposes are to make it easire to get the boot off next time around, and to prevent an electrrical connection from happening. I have a sneaking suspicion that you need get it off of the connectors on top of the coils, or at ltast the parts inside that connector that carry current.
I just recently replaced all of the plugs, and COPS on one side of my 03 expy and it seemed to take care of all of my hesitation, sputtering, shutting down to four cylinders, and complete shut down of the engine. I did use the grease on the ceramic of the plug----but nowhere else!
Did you also change plugs?? Bought mine used and it appears they were original with about 85000 miles. worn about .010 over specs and may have nbeen part of the problem. Dont forget the anti-seeze if you do!!
I did change all the plugs along with all the coils.
Now, I need to figure out the way to clean the connectors since the grease is all spread out inside. I am going to try and use compressed air.
Thanks for all the input
