The new-to-me X ('00 4x4 LTD w/V10) that I have says I'm getting about 12.5 around town and 15 on the highway. How does this compare with your mileage? I'm wondering what my gearing is also? I think I read somwhere that unless specifically ordered, the standard gearing for my particular X is 3.73. Does anyone know if this is correct? (Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread Jackrista)...

Both of you have 3.73's or 4.30's. To find out for sure read the tag on the rear axle and someone here will tell you what it means. Mine says 4L30 if I remember correctly (4.30's limited slip). The other way is if your tires are stock height you rpm's at 60 will be about 1900 with 3.73 or 2200 with
4.30's. By the way my V10 gets 10mpg around town 14-15 on the highway.
I hope this helps.

I get about 10 in town. but only like 10-12 on the highway. What is highway speed for you? I go about 75-78

btw I have a 2000 v10 4.30 with the limited slip...

What MPG?

I have to agree with some of the other posts, on the V-10 there are not a lot of options, except the gas pedal. While I didn't try new gears, I did put on a flow master and superchips. Made it fast as ...... but did not improve the mileage. I found keeping it under 2K RPM on highway was key. Around town? Map out the most inexpensive gas stations.

EXX2... did you do the mods yourself (flowmaster and superchips)?

Was wondering about those mods myself, but did not know if they really make a difference.

I was also considering a cold-air intake, such as Volant.

I set the cruise control to 60 mph on the way home on a flat stretch of roadway and I tached at about 1800 rpm. I guess I have the 3.73's. What does this mean as far as my towing ability (the primary reason I bought this behemoth)? I've got a 28 ft 6000# TT. Will I have to use the "overdrive off" button on the end of the shift lever in order to not smoke my transmission??

if you are on the flats you shouldn't have to, when going up or down hills deffently turn it off, it will save you trans uphill, and the brakes down hill. when towing on flat only turn off "od" if the trans is hunting for the right gear, you dont want it shifting up and down every five minutes.

x usa volant is a very good intake system ive sold them before, smaller vehicles, none for a f series or xcursion. if i had to buy a new one i would shell the money for the volant, but i've been watching ebay and got out bid on a k+n buy $3.00. good buy for less than a c-note.
