well after doing alot of reading and watching on this site, it looks like dont spend you money with banks unless they are willing to prove it helps, the guy on e bay selling y-pipes sounded good at first but after hearing what was said on hear its a nogo. as for programmers that is still up in the air, they all sound decent put will it do what you want it to. i have not read anything on throttle body spacers anywhere in here, so i dont know if anyone has tried them. the best thing to do for performace it seems like to this board is the 4.30 or lower gear swap. and for handling the helwig swaybar, and then the spring swap with the f-series trucks. if anyone has anything else to say please chime in. i want to upgrade the x, just want the best bang for the buck.
THis is my opinion:
1. Skip the throttle body spacer. They are really a gimmic and maybe give you 1hp.
2. Chips are nice for power, but dont expect your mileage to get any beter. They usually cause mileage to suffer.
3. I dont know much about modifying the Y-pipe, but if you think it will work, why not try it.
4. I would suggest you using a fuel injector cleaner every 10k miles. If i dont use it in my X, i can rev it up and itll stall. It makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I think you've got a pretty good handle on it now.
On my country road ride from Church to Home which is approximately 30 miles...I averages 22 mpg with my v8 2x4. Achieved by not going any faster than 50 and eeeeaaassssy starts and stops. I go thru 3 blinking light towns and 2 stop signs.
Proves it is possible to get decent mpg but it is at a definite cost in time and driving concentration.
I also ordered the Volant CAI for my V10 Ex and installed it before our road trip from FL to MI.
The unit is very easy to install (it's so easy even a Cave Man (ME!) can do it)... LOL and gives the X a nice clean look under the hood. It seems Volant did their homework as all parts fit exactly.
The first thing I noticed when I took the truck for a test ride around the block is that it gives the engine a nice "growl" at arund 2000 to 3000 rpms. Not too loud but nice. The noise level during cruising or idle did not change.
Even in the hot and humid Florida summertime, the CAI seems to give better throttle response a bit more "kick" to the truck. On our 3500 mile trip I noticed a fuel milage increase of about 1 mpg... not a lot, but anything helps (especially if you pay $ 3.20 or more in MI!).
I love the Volant CAI... next I guess is the exhaust... Seems like people like the Flowmaster 50 or 40... any price ranges I should look for this system?
Is the Flowmaster a bolt on system or do you get into welding parts?
i am glad to hear xusa that you had good luck with the volant. i have been looking at those. they look like the only true cold air out there. i dont like the price for flowmaster and i think for a truck like the x they will be to loud.
Dump the gasser for a diesel. I had a gasser and I was getting around 10 to 12mi. now with a 6.0L I get19.8. Besides Diesel is cheaper at the pump. When you hop it you get BIG results. The cost of the truck is a little still but well worth it. Better mileage better torque and the motor will last longer that any gasser.
Your opinion that you are entitled too...but not everyone NEEDS a diesel...those that WANT a diesel SHOULD have a diesel...those that NEED a diesel should GET a diesel. My definition of NEED for a diesel is towing anything OVER 10K#'s. Under that...a 4.30 V10 will pull JUST as hard accept at the HIGHEST of elevations.

UNLOADED your diesel does infact ROCK...but towing what do you get and what do you tow? I tow 9000#'s and get 8-9 in my V10. My buddies with PSD's get 9-11...hmmmmmmmm...they have NO reason to lie to me...of course I didn't hear that on the internet from them...
NOW...I do NOT drive my V10 unloaded more than 4 miles each way to work...if I had lots of UNLOADED miles to drive...I would re-evaluate the equation...but for me...I do NOT fit your stereotype of "MPG" "advantage"...sorry...

TODAY!!!...revel in that for a moment....................................oops it may have already flipped the other way...saying one fuel is "cheaper" for any instant in time always cracks me up.

I get HUGE results with my 4.30 V10 pulling 9000#'s up ANY grade...so for me...I've alreay got BIG results...my TT is a GREAT match with the V10...

Funny how $6000-$9000 is a "little" these days...

There are well documented accounts of gassers lasting just as long as diesels...plus how many smoker owners actually KEEP their truck LONG enough to really cash in on THIS CLAIM?...most trade with LESS than 100K on the clock!...why...well the REST of the truck is getting worn...hmmmm...
Man did I hit a cord. WOW still dump the gasser you get better MPG higher torque and If you ever need to tow you got the torque and power to do so. Besides when I tow my close to 11K trailer it's no problem. Oh and the question of gassers lasting longer or as long well, my brother has a Mercedes has over 400K on it. I wounder why the Big rigs use diesel hum durability....... Oh the 6.0l diesel has 3.73 gears in it you don't have to change your gear sets the get the torque and power to match the diesel. Just my two cents.
nah...just tired of the constant mis-information...FYI...I KNOW eventually when I have a load worthy of a diesel...I will own one to pull with or a diesel pusher class-A. For me and my paulty 34' and 9000#'s, my V10 is more than enough...sure a diesel would pull it too...but with another 25-30% more torque in the 6.0L...that's kind of a no brainer now isn't it?
now I see you have a couple of 7.3L's...well that is a smoker of a different color altogether in the stock HP arena now isn't it?...
time for a morgans and coke I guess...
joe.
