personally, i couldn't see myself shelling out $7k to keep my suffering dog alive. that's just my opinion though. i've said so myself, that if i'm suffering from cancer, i personally wouldn't wanna be alive as well. btw, i volunteer at a local humane society so don't think i'm not an animal lover
that being said, i'm sorry for you and your poor pup. i wish y'alls the best. if you need the money now, selling it for $20k isn't the worst thing at hand. if you don't really need the money now, i'd say hold off. there is someone who will ante up and purchase it for more. after all, it's not like you can go out and buy a new one damn fomoco... wait.. thats another topic...
so, i'm not voting 'cause i don't know you're financial situation. sounds like you wanna sell the L anyways though - gl...
Thanks for the thoughts.
The thing is that after all the research, the dog is NOT suffering after the amputation; if there was any data showing otherwise, we may have chosen a different route.
The choices were:
Put him down immediately.......not an option.
To just keep him doped up and let the cancer spread and put him down in a few months.......nah.
Remove the cancer (leg) and let him enjoy another year of life.
Sure I'd like to keep the L forever, but since we got the '06 Mustang, it really doesn't get used a lot. Tags are due, insurance, etc....If the doggy drama hadn't happened, I was still thinking of selling it.
Trucks are replaceable, too. A hell of a lot more so than dogs, when you get right down to it....
Couldn't have said it better....

That's a given.......see, I think $23,000 (low book, even though it's mint) is fair. It could sell for that in a few weeks and I look like a genious. Fuel could jump to $4.00+ a gallon and I'm stuck with a pink(red) elephant.
That deal or no deal thing is rough! I feel like I'm in the audience of The Price Is Right trying to figure out what to yell!
People have brought up some good points about selling the truck. I think Bill (NumberDummy) is right, that fuel prices aren't coming down any time soon. But then again, holding-out gives you the opportunity to get some better bids. And it is a Lightning.
I'm yelling: HOLD-OUT
It's not easy, and in most cases just a waste of time, to try and explain to people that some folks just have pets, and some of us have non-human family members. And we see our non-human family members no differently than our human family members. I'm with you my mutant brother!

LOL!!!..........Something about unconditional love that makes dogs more than just pets to me/us.
Update.....just got off the phone with the original $20,000 bidder.
Told him about the Carmax offer, and he can have it for $21,500. he said that he doesn't have the extra $1,500 because he still has to pay sales tax on it.................long silence..........said he'd talk to his wife and get back to me.
Told him AGAIN how low book was $23,000 and that at $21.5K he's stealing it.

Lame excuse, if you ask me. What's another 1500 hundred?
Remember, it ain't sold till the cash is in your pocket...money talks, bull caca walks!
Okay. . .I thought you were maybe embellishing a little when you said "Mint" condition. But from those pics, that really does look mint. Did you even drive it?!!!
Does this guy some like he's playing the barter game?

We bought it new in Feb. 05, so even though it's "3" years old, it's been on the road for a little over 2 years. It does have under 29,000 miles and is still under the original 3/36 Ford warranty.
I don't know about the potential buyer.............he's still stuck on his original offer. One would think that he'd at least of bumped himself up to the Carmax offer if he could have.

IMO he will bite on the 21.5K. For a Lighting with under 30K for mileage and by the looks of it, she is mint, he should go for it. I know if I had 21.5k I would be driving that truck out of your driveway.
I wonder if he is a FTE member monitoring this thread?

He will come back. My guess w/ 21.5k
Lightnings aren't all that common - especially a late model one in THAT condition.
He sounds like someone that is hooked on it too.
Are you including the plates in the sale?
I know they may be worth a few dollars - if he is struggling to find the cash, remove them from the deal, you should be able to get 1.5k for them (well, if plate prices are the same over there).
As for your dog - there are somethings money can't buy.

Valid points........the only thing is that '99-'02's are as low as $17K. He may settle he if "honestly doesn't have the coin.

Potential buyer is from out of state......but you bring up something I haven't thought about. If I let the tags expire, the plate is up for grabs....I wonder if the DMV has a reserve policy for inactive plates???
