yo Doc!
yep, you can........... The fiberglass top is fully removeable. It is held on by a series of bolts underneath the trim strips. The bolts are sometimes stubborn and in difficult to reach places. use a small 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the bolts The top is fairly heavy, but isn't a problem for two people to remove and can be carried by one person if you are clever.
It's not a bad idea to have spare clip-on nuts on hand (you'll see them when you get the top off). They sometimes break, and may vibrate loose and end up on the road somewhere.
A company on the www sells new design clips, I'll look for them again.
our 78 bronco just goes right back on without any sealer.
but my 96 would need the top mponted brake light and rear seat seatbelts to be disconnected/removed in order for the top to be removed.
if you put a sticky sealer on the roof mating surface, it will be very diff to remove again....
good luck Doc
Yo, here is www site for LANGE ORIGINAL's Kwick Top Kits™
but it looks as though they have models up to 78...check em out anyway if you desire it.
Also, the top weighs ~ 120 lbs....and the weatherstrip can be damages..place top on 2x4's with ols towels laid out where the top touches the wood. Lay the top down right down...NOT upside down.
today's a great day again for going topless dude! have fun!.
Al
I usually leave my top off my 83' all summer(drive the car on rainy days) and I have never had a problem with the top not sealing up again. Just that the first time I removed the top it took some apint with it(on top of the fender where the roof connects, but I was the first person to ever remove the top which I did first in 1996 when I bought it. anI also only put 4 bolts back it to hold it down, two in the back corners and 2 of the three up above by the roof.
I tried to reply to RenoVooDoo's message just now..here it is again...yo reno!
I never took the top off the 96 bronco yet...have done it many times on the 78 though.
K-Bar S sells convertible tops and tonneau's for earlier Broncos..78 etc...but they NOW state that "NOTE: Convertible tops and Tonneau Covers are the same from 1980-96 but are illegal after 1990 with the high tailight on the hardtop. This is a Federal Law."
here is their www site:
http://www.truckworld.com/KBARS/66-77bronco/78-79bronco/accessories.html
check out truckin' magazine for other firms. All say the same thing though..because of the 3rd brake light and rear seat passengers' seat belts.
you could always remove the rear seat for the summer..and put up a boat type lighting mast with an aftermarket 3rd brake light when you're on the streets..you could hook the mast to the inner part of the tail gate using the inspection cover's screw holes...maybe a fiberglass or plastic/pvc pipe for the mast with a hinge near the gate's top?
and the quick release stuff is made by Lange, but they don't cite our late model either..:
http://www.intraflow.net/Lange/products/kwick_top/kwick_top.html
it could be used Im sure on the 96...or just buy extra nuts..lol
they say " 1966-1978 Bronco-- This kit uses a version of our special one- and one-quarter turn fasteners to make removal easier. No more lost nuts, hunting between body panels, or need for tools".
good luck and keep in touch. Im looking for a factory overhead console for the 96 Bronco and we are selling the 78 bronco now. We are in NJ.

I am Al.
I have a 82 amd have taken my top off several times. I love thatfact that hey come off and all but it is not a 2 minute deal. On mine, the bolts were very stubborn to get out the first time and not easy to put back in after. I was thinking about putting a skyler top on this year for quick changes during rain and stuff.
If it's stuck, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway!!

Does anybody know if you can put your original top back on if you install one of those Kayline soft top kits? I obviously don't mean at the same time.
You should not have to reseal the top as long as you dont damage the rubber seal when you remove your top. As far as the Kayline top goes, there are brackets that have to be put on to mount the soft top to that will have to be removed before putting you hardtop back on. If you are thinking about a softtop, check out www.skylercorp.com.

Took my 91's top off for the first time last weekend. Kids loved it. Re-installed it Sunday night with a power drill screwdriver attachment. There are 13 screws on mine. I did not replace the trim, cause it was just too much to do. Am thinking of getting a Kayline soft top so I can just raise and lower the top according to the weather. will put the hard top on again in the fall.
