When removing my hard top (first time ever) on my 76 Bronco, I found it had large tabs that went into the holes in the back of the bed rails. I've never noticed these things in pictures of other hard tops that have been removed. Is this something that was only put on later Broncos, or is it something everyone removes?
Tabs might not be the right word for what I'm describing, they are more significant than just tabs.
Do you mean the ones you run the bolts through the bed post to the hard top ?
i am guessing but yes they are there.
Help stiff up the whole top and bed assembly.
Yes, I believe we are talking about the same thing. They go down into the stake pocket and then there are some bolts that go in through the sides. I have just never noticed these on pictures of removed hard tops in magazines etc... So I was wondering if they were only put on say 76 and 77's or does everyone take them off to make removal and install easier?
Could be I just haven't paid enough attention to the photos.
They slant into the top but go strait down into the stake pockets. You need to remove the bolts from the body not the top. You can remove them after the top has been removed.
