I am in need of a new Warner transfer case for my 89 f-250 with the zf 5 speed. . I found one for 200 bucks, what do you think. What other engines did they put this transfer case on? It will be going on a supercab truck, will I have to modify anything to make it work if the t-case were from a regular cab. Any help would be appreciated.
You will have to change the rear drive shaft. The frames are extended behind where the transmission mount is. The short shaft from the rear end to the carrier is the same on the two frames.
The actual transfer case should bolt right in using your drive shaft.
An 89 should have a Borg Warner 1356 transfer case.
The Borg Warner 1345 would also fit, it was used on older trucks.
Well I still have the old t-case in the truck parked in the driveway. I am trying to find a replacement t-case because I dont really have the time to tear the old the old one down. I have a previous post called transfer case problems that describes my technical difficulties. Basically the t-case will drop out going down the road in two high. I then have to go back and forth between 2 high and 4 low until it goes back into gear. 4 low only works at an idle and can barely keep the truck moving. If throttle is appied all power ceases to the wheels. The t-case usually goes thunk and then No Power. I also can not get the dang thing to go into 4 high. Thanks PLC7.3 for the ebay link.
Thanks for the ebay link, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...=transfer+case - This post cover the problems that I am having. The truck sat for a few years tand the guy I bought it from said the t-case had problems. It ran fine for about a week abd then started coming out of gear. It never happened when I was going down the road, but when I would go to shift the t-case would go clunk and I would loose all power. The problem has grown and I can not even get the truck out of my driveway. It will creep at an idle in 4 low but stops if any power is applied. 4 hi will not lock in and 2 hi comes out of gear. I think it may be the t-case syncros but as of yet i am not sure. I think im going ot have to pull it and see what the damage is.

I would buy the one and run it. The swap out is pretty easy and that T-case was used in Bronco,150,250,350. As long as it is a slip yoke everything is turn key with exception to the Speedo gear. That gear is put into whatever gear ratio the front and rear axle was going to be for that build. But if your running the same gear ratio all the better.
Rebuild your old one swap out the used one and have it for a standby. With a beer break 2 hours would be a long time for a swap.
I tore the t-case out last week and tore it all down. It is amazing how simple these units are to work on. A little common sense goes a long way. It turned out that the rode that ran into the transfer case off of the shifting linkage had worn an oval shape into the t-case body. The rode connected to a plate that moved and held the gear forks into their correct position. The oval caused the the connecting rod to vibrate and move in and out of the t-case. This allowed the shifing plate to fall out of locked postion when pressure(Throttle) was applied. I went and bought two stainless washers and a large steel washer from Ace Hardware for a buck twenty-three. I placed the stainless washers in the t-case between the shifting plate and the clip that held the plate onto the shifting rod. The steel washer was placed on the outside of the t-case shifting rod. With the help of a few washers, the shifting rod was sured up and doesnt allow the t-case to fall out of gear. I now have all my 4 hi and low options and no more falling out of gear. I suppose I should have had the t-case bored and sleeved for a more permanant solution, but I can't afford that right now, and everything works. As long as the steel washer is oiled everything should work for a long time to come.
