A divorced transfer case is physically separated from the transmission by a drive shaft. In a divorced transfer case setup there will be three drive shafts:
1) One shaft leading from the transmission to the transfer case
2) A separate shaft running from the transfer case to the rear end
3) A third shaft running from the transfer case to the front end
An integral transmission/transfer case is all one unit. It will not have a visible, external shaft linking the transmission and transfer case.
