This is what I have learned about the Audiophile Stereo. This stereo has a seperate amp and powers 8 speakers with the subwoofer. If you wanted to use this unit you would have to purchase the amp, head unit and additional speakers. Obviously at this point one should go out and get an aftermarket unit. It was worth trying but I have reached a dead end.
Thanks for all the advice guys ! I think I'll go out looking for stereo components later today ! I'm gonna lean towards a factory head unit though with aftermarket speakers and such...Face it, How many people get their factory radio ripped off ? I'm one of those "Only lock the doors when my rifles are in there" kinda' guys...;-)Scott
I miiiiiight be able to find my factory cd deck for my 2000 F250. I know I used to have it, but I have moved and my stuff is in various boxes, if you like, I can look for it. It worked just fine, and you could have it for the cost of shipping, not looking to make a buck.
best bang for the buck is to upgrade to an aftermarket deck with a full set of new speakers Then you can rock out to some good ol' tunes like Rush, Led Zep, ya know the stuff you old timers listen to, lol
I just finished doing this. I have a 99 F150 XLT Extended Cab. The original radio was a singe CD unit. I started having trouble with mine so I used the opportunity to upgrade. On your truck, I think you have a true double DIN opening. On mine, it tapered into a single DIN. I modified it to accept a double DIN radio. The mod was behind the dash so it's impossible to tell. I am VERY pleased with how the upgrade turned out. I chose an Audiophile, 6CD, MP3 unit from a 2007 Mercury Mariner. The model # is 6L8T-18C815-FD. In 2005, Ford changed the plug type from "world plugs" to "phase 2" or Audiophile connectors. I built a harness that would plug into the truck side "world plugs" and the radio side "phase 2" sockets. It was simply a wonderful upgrade that took about 3 hours to complete. I bought mine from Ebay for $150.00. If you need help at any stage of the upgrade, let me know.
After looking at some of the other posts, I thought I would add a few notes. The new radio is working with my existing speakers. This unit has an amp in it and, for me, it's quite loud. An interesting note, even at full volume, the speakers don't distort, at least not enough for me to notice or care. Don't get me wrong, this unit has more power than the previous one. It seems to have a more efficient amp. It has pre outs for a sub that I will add later, and a satellite input that, with a converter, can be used as an auxiliary. The built in "AUX" must interface with a DVD player that has an auxiliary input. I'm not interested in that. Hope this helps.
