I was thinking of installing a later model factory CD player in my 2000 Sperduty...Anyone have advice on what will work in my truck ? Should be able to pick one up on ebay, I guess...
For the money you might as well get an aftermarket stereo. They are so much better. Just my $.02. While you are at it, replace the speakers too. It is an easy swap.
I never swapped out a Ford stereo before...I heard its pretty easy...Then again, I had classmates say geometry was easy too...
Anyone have quick tips...that are fireman-proof?
LoL

Some say use a bent coat hanger. I tried that for all of 2-3 minutes and said the heck with it and bought the actual tool(s). After you pull it out, it is a matter of unplug the old one and plug the new one back in. My '99 Explorer has 2 plugs but the aftermarket Kenwood I put in only utilized one of them. Also you have to do the same with the antennae.

Ditto to both. I have only had the 250 for 2 weeks and I have done both of those replacements (and all of the door locks with the fix).
yea i would just upgrade the deck and components. even if you dont amp it it'll sounds mucho better

Thanks for all the advice guys ! I think I'll go out looking for stereo components later today ! I'm gonna lean towards a factory head unit though with aftermarket speakers and such...Face it, How many people get their factory radio ripped off ? I'm one of those "Only lock the doors when my rifles are in there" kinda' guys...
For changing out the speakers in the door, how easy is it to pull the door panels off? Are there any bolts, or just the "thumbtack" typical panel fasteners??
The best retrofit factory radio that I could find for my 2000 F350 was model 6L8T-18C815-FD. It was a "new" pull-out from a 2007 Escape. It is the audiophile version with high power with no need for external amp, Audiophile features, plus RDS, 6 cd in dash changer, MP3, etc. It is Sattelite compatible and has the plug for the big subwoofer if you have/want one. The radio is a drop in replacement for the original 2000 Super Duty radio. All you have to do is install a cable adapter to convert from the "world class" type of plug to the "phase two" plug. You can make the cable or purchased a ready made to plug in cable. $30 - $45. Do a google search or check ebay. There are several places that cary this radio brand new. There are a lot of others that will fit and a lot that will not fit. Research before you buy. Mine sounds great and looks great. Looks like original factory radio.
