The engine is being built near Oakdale, the chassis is near Clear Lake. It looks like you know a bit about racing 4wds - your input would be welcome. None of us have done this before.
Also, don't get shook as we will be adding massive front and rear bumpers. We want these so the truck will look neat at a show, and maybe raise a bit of interest in our chapter. We will build them such that they unbolt quickly for the mud bogs, where all that is required is a log chain and clevis hook so the tractor can pull you out.
We also want to keep the ability to do some trails - the Nevada and the Southern California Chapters have challenged us to a face-off.
I can give as much input on it as possible, however, my opinions about the way the truck should be built will drastically differ from what most people like.
Might surprise you, but diesel engines are not allowed in the classes we want to run.
That doesn't surprise me at all. I wasn't gonna suggest putting a diesel in it anyway. It'd make the front end too heavy for a mud truck. What I meant by saying what I said earlier is my thoughts on what should be done to it as far as looks and some aspects of the build are quite a bit different than most people who are building a truck like yours. Not many people agree with the way I think on how it should be built and the way it should look. That being said, I'm more than willing to offer what I can to the build whether it be help, advice, parts, or whatever.
For now, getting the base platform together and working is our main goal. And, to be frank, we all like the looks of the bumperside truck. A basic Ford truck is also good advertising for our chapter.
But we still need to do such appearance items as the front and rear bumper and the roll cage. We would also consider some body changes to be done after the first season.
We are kind of informal - people have been working on the chassis all along, when they can spare the time. see TigerDan to arrange a good time. I think him and fastmover are going to Nevada this weekend.
We have not started working on the engine - 3mike6 is overseeing that, and needs to clear off some space in his shop. We may work it as a clinic - but I do not know his plans.
I'll have some room cleared in my Dad's shop soon, I need to find a set of tires for the axles I built and put them under the boat trailer, this will clear plenty of room for engine teardown.
I finished changing sme bearings in the axles, got all the other ones repacked, so once I find some good rubber I get get it taken care pretty quickly.
