Dan has sent me some photos - I will post more photos in the newsletter, or website but for those who have not seen our project - the first is Dan bringing it home, the second is after he removed the front end sheet metal and power washed it
That is a totally rebuilt 1 ton front end with less than 1000 miles on it - it makes me cry when I think of the work and expense in redoing the steering and brakes - even installed new king pins.
You can see what Dan thought of the work - - - he torched it off!
Can't make an ommelette without breaking a few eggs...
Don't worry, I'll put all that nice new stuff under the front of my '68 so it won't go to waste...
Actually, the shop doesn't look quite so good now. Time to pick up and sweep again, I guess...
Right on guys!!!
Thanks for sharing those photos. I wish there was a way I could blink, and show up to get greasy for a day here and there. The distance is going to limit my involvement, unfortunately. But, I suppose Summer is just starting, so I'm sure something will ease up on me where I can take a road trip before too long. Right now, I'm busier than a dog with two middle legs.
Keep the updates coming Clint. You too Dan and Mike. It helps make me feel involved when I can see things coming together.
Let me know if there are any more parts I should look for over here in the competition's back yard...
A couple of more - can you guess which one of Santa's helper this one is?
The second shows how the front pumpkin hits the cross member. I wonder - in a 2wd this cross member is part of the I beam set up - do we need one this big on the 4 wd?
The engine mounts to it, and it holds the frame rails in position, but can we build a different set up?
I've looked that over, and I feel it would be more work to remove the crossmember, fabricate a new one that mounts further forward like a stock 4X4 and then fabricate new engine mounts than to just notch this one...or are you offering to come up and do all that?
I've already notched this one and need to do a bit more trimming, and with a little additional lift I don't feel we'll have a problem.
