Bump Steer

I have an 06 4x4 F-250 power stroke. When I hit bumps on the hwy I get bump steer in the steering wheel. Kinda feels like the old Fords did many years ago.....scary! It is worse when I have my 30' toy hauler on the back. Is this normal? Is their a fix? Maybe a Heavy duty sway bar? If so where can I find it?
Ant thoughts?
The dealer says everything is normal. Go figure.

If your at stock height, you do have problems. Bumpsteer is created by tire travel, as the tire moves up, the distance between the spindle pivot and pitman arm is reduced, but the linkage remains at a constant. So the tires loose toe-in. Bump steer is commonly the front of one tire pushing away more than another. Talk to some alignment shops in your area, someone there will know the procedure to reduce it.

I'm pretty sure that what your describing is an inherent problem with these trucks. When the 05's came out with the new coil suspension, it was so bad that people started referring to it as the death wobble. I think one of Fords fixes was to put a steering dampener standard on all the SD's. From what I have heard it has helped reduce the problem a great deal, like to the occasional bump steer, but not eliminate it completely. I feel the same thing in my '06 when hitting moderate bumps on the highway. Mine isnt unbearable and I have found that with just a very slight correction and a quick firm grip on the wheel it recovers quickly. Even my old '03 with the leaf spring suspension had some degree of it from day one. I'm sure that the factory dampner isnt the best, so maybe buying a better aftermarket or a dual setup would help out a bit.

The more dampeners (steering stabilizers) you use the better it will be. I changed the OEM dampener on my 05 for a Fabtech and added 2 more Fabtechs straight on the axle. No more bump steer 4 me!!!
