I bought an 07 FX4 supercrew about a month ago. Absolutely love the truck. Came from a Titan, and miss the power, but otherwise, this is a different class of truck. Rides ALOT better, and a whole lot smoother even with the 20's. I have noticed something odd however. When accelerating from a standstill I feel a slight shudder in the rear end. It's a slight "bump" then the truck moves away like normal. Almost like a slight hesitation. I know it's not the engine, but it feels like its in the drivetrain or the rear diff. I have owned 2 other f150's (lightning & 99 xlt 5.4) and neither one did this. Any ideas? Before I take it to the dealer, I wanted to ask you guys if you knew what it could be.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I also get a bumping in the steering column when on rough surfaces while turning the wheel. everytime I hit a bump, I feel a bump as if something is hitting or rubbing the steering rack. Could these be related somehow?
the bump could be a sticking slip yoke on the rear drive shaft and the bumping could be a lower steering shaft that is getting some play in the slip joint .
I had that same problem on my 04 have you washed your engine compartment lately? When I washed mine the truck would jerk when accelerating I thought it wqas that emergency brake recall. But when I talked to my dad about it he said that next time it does that to slow down to about 15 and then run the dog ***** out of it a few times. It worked I guess I just had a little water in it.
Took it to the dealer today. They called and said it was ready this evening. The paperwork said that they R-R (?) the rear drive yoke, and re-lubed. They could not re-create the bumping in the front however (of course!). Drove it home, and the problem seems to be fixed for now. I hope it holds up! Thanks for eveyones input!
I found the TSB about the shudder, but is said nothing about replacing driveshaft. It said to apply shims, and re-lube. I figured that re-lubing would ware out quickly anyway, and I would have to return to the dealer again! What exactly is causing this shudder? The service teck just looked at me like I was talking greek, ans said "It just needs to be lubed". If it comes back, I'm going to take it to another dealer and see what they say.
Something about yoke angle cause bind and they redesign it and its better now.
I have a paper with me TSB for to replace driveshaft, try search on other ford forums.
to save your headache its Rear End TSB 05-26-11 tell the idiot worker to look up TSB
