I have a 1997 f 350 crew cab,diesel the trans slips in reverse only when its been run for a while an hour or so,once it cools down the slipping is not near as bad or wont slip at all,what can this be,oh and by the way I sure am glad that I stumbled upon this site theres tons of info here,and this being my first diesel I can use all the help I can get. thanks in advance for any help

Get it scanned a tranny shop, most will do it for free. This should pipoint trouble areas to look into 1st.
Sounds like a valve body problem. If you have a lot of miles on the tranny it may be going bad. Especially if you tow/haul heavy. New fluid and filter is a good place to start but it's not likely to cure it.
You can try getting a kit for the valve body, it addresses reverse slippage. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/e4od.htm
