Hello all,
I have an 88 Bronco. The truck has developed cracks on both sides of the truck at the front and rear of the raingutters. I have heard that there is a special warranty to repair this defect. Has anyone on this board ever had Ford fix this problem?
I talked my father into buying a 90 bronco and he also has this problem.
I have a feeling I am on my own as far as fixing the cracks because the trucks are so old.
Does the aftermarket make some kind of reinforcements that can be welded in?
I want to restore my truck in the spring since I am the original owner and it has 195,00 on it.
Sorry for the long post.
Regards,
Ron

my 96 is ok for now...i think others have had ford fix these cracks under a spec warranty..hope they reply here to your message, on how old their vehicles are/were when Ford made the repairs..and what they actually did in each case
good luck,
Thanks for the information. Ford issued Technical Service Bulletin 951409A on this topic, dated 7/17/95. There is a repair kit that can solves this problem is part number F5TZ-9850223-A.
The dealerships in NYC are not too helpful as far as warranty repairs go. I thought you were from N.J. Have you ever delt with Downs Ford? The dealers here do not seem to even want to look up a price on the parts for me to attempt the repair myself.
Sorry for not acknowledging your reply sooner.
Ron,
Yes, Im in South jersey tho...heard that Down's Ford in Toms River is a ok...they are also a svt/sho dealer.
I have the same problem here; asked a few dealer's to look up a tsb, but the answer is that ..."so many come in, I can't keep up with them"...yack..yack...

good luck dude!
btw, neither my old 78 or 96 had any gutter cracks, so I don't know much about that tsb...some have posted here last year..try a search for gutter...rain..crack....will try later if my isp speeds up
Greetings. I ordered & bought my '96 Bronco brand-new. About 10 months ago, it began to grow a small crack over the driver's side rain gutter. The crack hasn't grown since it first appeared, but it is starting to rust & let water into the cab.

Wilj351 welcome to the club. Most people including myself put caulking, rtv, etc, over the cracks to keep them from rusting and keep the water out. Some members have welded up the cracks and repainted that area, I haven't heard of any cracks reappearing after being welded up. Ford did have a repair kit for the cracks but it went obsolete yrs. ago.

This is what the repair kit that Ford offered looked like. From what I understand they are not making any more, but there may still be some in the parts bins somewhere???? Chances are you could find much better pics if you search a bit.......
I wouldn't waste my time with the kit. I have heard that even with the kit they eventualy crack again. Just seal it with a color of your truck, make it a flexable sealent and you shouldn't have to worry about it for another 2-5 yrs again.
they do not make the repair kit anymore but you can go toa body shop and see if they have some body solder. it is basically metal that you heat up and smear on then sand it smooth. i have no personal experience with it but i saw it in body shop magazine and they were using it to do the exact thing we have problems with on our broncos
