floor shifter

i have a 56 f100 390/c6. it came with a b&m slapstick floor shift.
i have had lots of problems with it and would like to replace it. i think the trans.
is from a mid 70's.
any suggestions ? i do not need anything fancy. just a normal floor shift

Take a look at Summit www.summitracing.com they have ~ 30 different automatic shifters starting at ~ 150.00.

Take a look at the shifting cable. They need to be lubricated every few months or so. I even had to take the shifter cover off also to clean the grit out of the tracks and slides on my quick silver not too long ago as well. Look at the .pdf instructions that can be found on their site, BMRacing.com to set the cable up correctly if it needs adjustment. If you really want to get rid of the shifter you can also buy a generic floor shifter from most auto part store that they have on the shelf. My original one cost me $45 and I had to make my own linkages to make it work.

I used one from Summit Racing(Lokar), you have to tell them what tranny you have and they'll help you figure out which one will work for your transmission. Lots of choices, I got one with a tall lever to simulate the old manual floor shifter. You'll probably have to make a new tranny cover plate since the old one probably will not work unless you luck out. Be prepared for about $150 bucks as Chuck said.
