is there supposed to be a filter in the canister/block where the fuel lines meet from the dual tanks? i was told that there is but i checked all the local parts stores and no luck. i unscrewed the canister of the bottom and there is no filter there. just a pickup tube looing thing? is this supposed to have a filter or is the on inline the only one? thanks.
Ford says the fuel tank selector valve on a 88 is a non serviceable unit.
No individual parts are sold for it.
You can buy a new one from Ford for around $65.00.
The only repaceable fuel filters is the one in front of the high pressure pump
which is mounted on the driveside inside frame rail and the fuel socks
which are snapped on to the bottom of each intank fuel pump.
how come the cap will unscrew if it is nonserviceable? also on my buddies 1986 he has the same setup as far as i can tell but it has a filter in there? according to autozone there is filter for some of them but whats the diff. between ? the pn is ff616. thanks
ok well thanks. that doesnt make sense to me why ford would have the same parts but only make some of them available but whatcha goina do? well i learn something every day. thanks
From my experiance..the 86 and 87 EFI's had the canister filter in the reservoir........the 86 did not have the inline high pressure filter.....but the 87 had both.......88 on up only had the inline high pressure filter.....
I have an 88 F150 -- 302 EFI dual tank. I want to replace the fuel filter, but was told I would have to release the pressure in the fuel line. Does anyone know the easiest way to do this ??
If you look under the hood behind the air filter housing (firewall side mounted above the plastic wheel well housing) is a metal bracket that holds two relays. One relay is for the computer and the other relay is for the fuel pumps.
The ECC (computer) relay has the following colored wires at its socket.
White/Light Blue, Yellow, Black and Red.
The fuel pump relay has the following colored wires at its socket.
Red, Tan/Light Green, Brown and Yellow.
Pull/remove the Fuel Pump relay from its socket and start the engine. The engine will run for about 10-20 seconds and then stall because of no fuel.
Thanx F150XLT...I went outside and had no problem locating the relays. I'll start the job Tomorrow AM as soon as "The Old Lady" pulls her Nissan out of the garage.......Thanx again....
