Hey guys I am looking at buying a used 1996 Bronco 4x4 Eddie Bauer. and i was wondering what all of you have towed with these broncos, is it as much as the F150s? or lower? Let me know...also if buying a 96 bronco is a good idea. Any problems it might have and things like that. Thanks!
What are you planning on towing with the Bronco? Due to the short wheelbase that Bronco's have, they don't make the best tow vehicle. I do use mine to tow a pop up camper with a 12' box and it does fine. Anything bigger may present a sway problem at highway speeds.
I would not hesitate to tow a 25 foot center console or something.... not a 25 foot cabin cruiser ... either way I'd check out the trailer brakes and make sure they worked well... I would stick to local raods and would not do any major highways.
I have a 92 bronco 351 and it pulls great! i have a 20' camper trailer that it pulls no problem, but you do feel it swaying sometimes on the highway so be carefull
I use my 1988 bronco to tow lots of stuff like my 5 ton capacity hooper trailer 25ft. travel trailer a 16ft Big Tex car hauler. I have use it to tow concrete and it pulled a little over 10,000lbs of concrete with no problems. MIne seems to tow very well for an old truck.
I bought a '96 EB last September, and I think it was a great idea to get it. If the one you're considering buying is in decent shape, I say go for it. I have'nt done much towing with mine, other than the occasional farm wagon for short distances, but would'nt be a bit afraid of towing a boat like you've described with it. Mine came equipped with a trailer brake controller and a frame-mounted receiver hitch, so the previous owners used it to tow something. I don't think you'll have any problems with a Bronco as a tow vehicle.
This bronco is in excellent condition, not a scratch outside and nothin inside besides the leather seats are cracked but i would most like put seat covers on it. I havent test drove it will do soon tho.
had 89 Bronco hauled 22 ft enclosed trailer with 86 Olds 442 . Did just fine and I could put that trailer any where I wanted. All depends on how load is distributed on trailer and if it has brakes . Good luck go for it.
This subject has been hit before. A quick refresher. The best tow vehicles would have a long wheel base and a short distance from the rear axle to hitch. The Bronco obviously doesnt have the long base. But it more than makes up for it in the short axle to hitch. (The short wheel base does make for excellent turning) For the ultimate tow, check my gallery
If you want to tow that much it better have the 351 and 4.10 gears and not too big of tires. My 95 w/ 302 and 3.55's w/ stock P235's is just adequate to tow about 3000 lbs, not much more. I think you may be out of the towing range for a 25' boat. One thing to be careful of is stopping in reverse, the brakes tend to lock up on the ramp.
Biederboat has a good caution. My front brakes will lock up on the gravel ramp, rear are not good enough and we go into an uncontroble slide into the water. Solution, put it in 4L first. Also, the condition of the front end has a huge impact upon towing. My steering gear box allows almost two inches of steering wheel play so I pucker up often, especially on the highway.
