Unhappy Ignition Problems

My 76 bronco has an electrical problem. Driving down the road it shut off. When I opened the hood the brown wire to the starter relay was smoking. Towed it back to the house traced the wird and lose it under the dash. can his wire be replaced or do I have a problem somewhere else that needs to be fixed. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

The brown wire gives 12v to the coil while cranking. It splices into the main key on power from the ignition switch for the coil positive (through the resistor).

It is difficult to diagnose your problem with the information you have. You need to isolate the circuit to figure out what could be causing the circuit to overheat (poor connection, short to ground, bad component)
