I have a 95 Explorer LT, 4.0, AT. I need to replace the AC compressor and clutch. All of the aftermarket places list the various compressors as 'Factory Installed', or 'Dealer Installed'. Does anyone know how I can identify which one I have? Also, any tips on doing the replacement would be appreciated. My Haynes manual doesn't cover AC repairs. Thanks in advance.

Most Explorers in the mid 90s would have factory AC and use the typical Nippondenso designed Ford compressor with a manifold type hose connection. An addon system would probably use a Sanden compressor with separate screw on hose connectors.
As for tips, the reason for replacing the compressor dictates what must be done in addition to installing a new compressor. If the compressor siezed, there's WAY more involved. You could be looking at a "firewall forward" replacement of the system. If only the pulley bearing failed, it can be replaced without opening the system.
Why are you replacing the compressor?
