59 F100.....I think I have a head light switch issue but want to be sure before I order a new one. Highs and Lows light with dimmer set to high. Lows do not light when dimmer set to lows. Dimmer has been replaced. Switch also pulses when in the on position. Any ideas?
if its pulsing, thats the circut breaker ( no fuse on light switch circut) cutting out due to overheating, usualy from a short, could be something internal in the switch going bad, or a short somewhere in the wiring
Low beam circuit has a breaker on the firewall(or at least thats where mine was) take a piece of wire and connect the one terminal to the other terminal, the low beams should come on(remember to have dimmer set to low) the headlight switch only supplies the power to the dimmer and will supply power no mater high or low. If the headlights do not come on at all, then its usually the breaker, if they come on then go off quickly or just flash then you have short tripping the breaker. If in doubt, unhook it and ohm check it. -2many
check all the h/l connections and grounds, especially the grounds, that'll make the breaker overheat fersure.
one night mine started acting up real bad then quit all together, was over an hour from home. ended up hadwiring h/l's directly to the battery to get home, thats when i noticed the wire was realllly hot, so that pretty much diagnosed the bad grounds........i cleaned em up, notta problem since (10 yrs)
