97 f150 exploding engine

i just bought a 97 f150\4.2l, then i found out about the exploding engine issue.
Can i replace the engine wwith a 2003 4.2 and what modifications would I have to make?
114000 mi.... runs sweet now !

the intake gasket can leak which will allow coolant to enter the cylindars, so when the piston comes up the coolant wont compress and it can bend a connecting rod or put a hole in the piston which could result in a knock and really low compression. as for the engine swap some sensors may be different you would just have to look into that.

I think we're talking about hydrolock. If I'm not mistaken, the problem stems from the intake manifold gasket. If you're worried about it, you might want to change the gasket as preventive maintenance rather than getting a new engine.
