Gear selector lever

I have a 95 F250 with the E4OD auto transmission. What I have noticed is the gear selector lever is loose and sometimes when I try to turn the ignition switch to the off position the shifter lever isn't all the way in the Park position so it is hard to turn the ignition switch to remove the key.

Are there any adjustments for this lever?

Thanks.

what about opening the steering column? I have never done it but it doesn't look easy.

Is there a way I can open this and look inside?

Thanks.

First take bottom cover off and lower dash piece and check all bolts the 2 on bottom work loose . Also the shift rod going thought the column will wear and break . It will get loose also. Its not bad to work or replace things just pay attention to what gose were if your memory is as short as mine. The cable has also stretch according to some post It can be adjusted under truck but I have never had that problem .

there should be alum. clamps on top of the column
that hold the shift rod to the column
there are plastic sleeves under the clamps
ford still sells these if worn or broken

I had the exact same problem. On the bottom of the steering column are two Torx bolts. I'm not sure what size they are, but they are probably loose. just tighten those bad boys up and everything should line back up. I did it to mine and it was tighter than I had ever had it. They will loosen back up over time, so either just keep the Torx bit handy or loc-tite them.

OK, was a good day...I made progress. One of my fears was I would take things apart and not find what I needed and, subsequently, take more things apart.

Here is what I found with the selector lever:

The gear selector lever is connected to a cylinder (for lack of a better term). This cylinder, on the top, has a piece of metal on it which holds it down to the steering column. Inbetween this piece and the steering column sits a plastic sleeve. This sleeve had slipped out of place so I replaced it and all is well.

I also found some other things I was looking for:

On this year truck you aren't able to shift from Park to any gear unless you have your foot on the brake. I found how to disable this (god I hate this feature, but I understand why it is there). If you look at the brake pedal and find where the brake switch is, look to the back of the vehicle about 4 inches. You will see a black, plastic connector with 3 wires, one green, one black and one (I think) grey). Unplug that.

The last thing I found is the lever used to tilt the steering wheel can be removed, it just seems to be threaded in there. Mine seemed to be in there too tight so I didn't force it but I did see the threads and was able to turn it about a turn and a half.

Thanks guys.
