I might suggest that encouraging participation is a good thing, even if it is slightly off topic.
My problem is I always see a segway to another topic. I try to stay on the topic but sometimes I stray. However, I'll put my vote in for staying on the topic and I'll try to open new threads when segway arise.

That is exactly what I meant, Clint. I was appauding you're exercising the democratic process in this thread.
See what I mean by difficulty in communication? So easy to be misunderstood.
What Old Dog mentioned was a valid consideration. Maybe include his suggestion as an option in the pole. I too, would vote on that one. Maybe that we would give notice to try and stay on topic, via PM or e-mail? Or maybe even post such. But I think, collectively, we can all contribute to this effort by not feeding the situation, and not responding to the diverting post. The offender would probably get the hint, if also receiving a PM reminding them of our policy to try and stay on topic.
I just think that deletion of someone's posts is kind of harsh, and that there is probably a less publicly insulting way to deal with it, IMO.
Keep up the good work, C

I just read, on the Speed Week and Hot August Nights Tread, and see that I went pretty far off topic. It was related to the subject, but a bit off the intention of the thread. Hmmm...

To me, it kind of adds color to discussion. But maybe I should police myself a bit more? What are the standards of deviance? Where is the line? If we are TOO restrictive, would it be as much fun to visit with our FTE friends? Though I also understand that it may not be fun, for some, to be constantly diverted from a subject that is important to them. That's when our policy should be reminded to the offender, I suppose.

Just a few things to consider. Sometimes, in any situation, when there is a problem we swing way to the other extreme, rather than finding an proportionate remedy.

Just some thoughts to consider on this subject. I am not stating that I disagree with any of the solutions, just interjecting perceivable consequences to proposed actions, of our decision.
Whadaya think?
