Couldn't believe I ran across this subject! Noticed the same thing with my truck a few days ago with a '97 truck I bought used a couple of weeks ago. Great truck, except for the extra H2O! I've isolated my leak, just one, and a drop by drop trickle at that. What would you guys think about forcing some caulk/sealant to the one spot and use some kind of a tool to spread and even it out? It is a tight spot, that's for sure. Anyway, not the greatest fix in the world but maybe I'll luck out and cover the crack. Might last awhile and save me some bucks. Has anyone tried something similar?
Good luck on trying to force caulk in. Maybe if you caulked it solid on either side for about 6 inches that may work. But as you say, the space is tight and getting a good seal will be tough.
Really guys, it's not that hard to pull the window and caulk it..
Siouxflyer, scroll up and read my post.It doesnt work. The whole window has to be replaced. The guy that did mine said if you take your time removing it you "might" salvage it without breaking it or the frame.Good luck!
Well I located the leak and it was not easy to find. With water flooding the rear window, there was not visable leaks at ALL. However the floor slowly began the fill with water, very slowly. I located the leak with the plastic side panels on the wall off. Looking through a hole on the inside at about the height of the rear seat belt attachment, I could see a small trickle going by. It reappeared at the floor from behind a double piece of steel. Anyway Ford agreed to replace the window by paying 70%. They replaced it first with Bronze shaded window instead of the original dark smoke. Once I showed them the mistake they all agreed but showed me that this is the new smoke color. I would not accept it and then they said that an aftermarket glass would match and replaced it again with the aftermarket glass. Finally it matched and looked pretty good. Then rain came and I no longer had one leak, now I have four. Window #4. If I were to try to do the work myself, is it as simple and removing the screws from the inside, cleaning the old seal, and putting a new seal on prior to reinstallation? Maybe one of you has done this before. Thanks...
Chadkee, when the glass company did mine they used a smoke tinted high quality slider.Put it this way,it cost Ford over 400.00 for my install from the glass company.Anyway,i watched him the whole time. When he first removed my glass he used a cleaner to clean where the old seal was.Inside and out. Then he threw the seal away that came with the window and used some of his "good" sealing stuff for the seal.No leaks or troubles since Feb. 2002.
...Same thing, 97 f150 leaking back glass on passenger side. Love the truck and have always loved ford trucks but they should do something for this problem. Found that it's about a $325 fix!
