Ihave a 1997 F150 with a rear window leak the head liner gets wet the dealer has tried repeatedly to fix the problem has installed new window but it still leaks up top
I had a similar problem with an '88 F-250 and it was the bed light. The water would come in there, drop onto the S/C seat or travel, sometimes all the way to the "A" pillar!!! The dealer doesn't sell just the gasket, so either make one, (it's made of foam) or pull the light off, clean the gasket and coat it with RTV silicone.
That's why I wrote it: it happened to my 1988 F150 too. You can get moldable (like play dough) window sealer at autozone. That's what I used. Works like a charm.
Hey bjoern is right! I am currently experiencing the same problem! All the rain that just came through Ga. gave me a fit. It is definately the rear window FRAME that needs replacing. I have recently spoken with many glass shops that have replaced the frame and window FOR FORD! So you need to get ford to pay for it. I will be talking to them tommorrow. They already know about it but as you know they will play dumb. But I am not playing games. It will cost about 300 to 350$$ to get it fixed!!! If anyone else has had this problem please let me know. Jay.
I have a 97 f 150 with the same problem. I have only had the
truck for a week and it happened the first rain. I have the sliding rear window .Please post your results.
Hey I had a 458.56 dollar ticket when they replaced my window and frame, and after threatening Ford they finally agreed to pay for most of it. I should have made them pay for it all but I was tired of arguing! I paid 81 bucks.
Yep, I got the same problem with my 97 F150 extended cab. I called the dealer and they said they had never heard of the problem before. Wow, I'm glad I checked the web. Is there any recourse we have with Ford or the dealership?
I just called Ford Customer Service. I got the same run around I got at the dealer. They claim to have a data base of all problems that are reported to them. I asked if there was any way they could look up to see how many others had called about the rear window leak issue with the 97 F150. He told me there was no way for him to access the information like that. I said, how do you know that you have a problem if there is now way for you to access the information once it is given to you. He said there were people at another office that analyized that information. I asked for their phone number, and he said that he did not have that phone number. Now I ask you, Is that Bull snot or what!!??
I have a '97 150 S/C 4x4 LAR. I got it last DEC. and a month later the window was leaking on the pass. side top. I took it to the glass place and paid $125 to reseal it.
Here it is 1 year later and it leaks again. I called the glass shop up and they pulled my record, $350 to replace, but they said FORD IS aware of this to contact them. I did and they told me $225 to reseal!!! HELP!! How do I hassle them? get them to pay for?
reguards to the window leak, who did you threaten and what did you threaten them with? I have the same problem and am about to go get it fixed, would appreciate any ammo you may have for me.
LAST EDITED ON 18-Apr-01 AT 08:40 AM (EST)[p]I had the same problem, Ford replace my rear sliding window under warranty after the truck was only a few months old. About 1 month after the waranty expired, it started leaking again. I called Ford customer service complaining that it was a design and reoccuring problem, they were no help and refused to do anything about it. I told them that would be the last FOrd truck I bought if they did not make it right and they said "Were sorry you feel that way...good bye" Anyway, the local dealer had a used non-sliding bak glass that was about 1/3 the price of a new slider. I went with the non-slider and have not had any more trouble...the dealer told me that they had not saw any of the trucks with the non-sliding back glass leak!
I even wrote a letter to Mr. Nasser.(President of Ford)....I received no response. Is quality still "Job 1"
Hope this helps....I think there should be a law holding Car Makers responsible for disign problems...we pay alot of money for their cars and trucks and get no service waht so ever is something goes wrong!
I'm going to have to do something soon especially if it starts raining. It looks to me that it shouldn't be that hard to remove the rear window. I think I'll pull it and apply silicone to everthing that I can see and bolt it back up. Worse that I can do is for it to start leaking. Again.
