I washed my wife's car the other day and the Meguire's I put on it about 9 months ago is still there... I can feel it - and water beads on it ... amazing stuff.
3M has a cleaner/wax that works the same way - more than 6 months on a coat of wax - but I hardly ever wash them ... that's why it stay's there so long
I've never used Mother's ... yet. Might it last a full year?

I would be a little worried about washing the engine every week. I am willing to bet that it will kill your alternator and other parts. I do wash mine as needed (usually every 4 months) and I spray Tire shine stuff on it and wait a while and wipe off excess. Looks like a fresh detail.
