I have a 2001 Excursion PSD and would like to get some help.
I have changes all the filters, oil, and kept it well maintained. The last three months my gas mileage has dropped from 17.0 mpg to 16.3 miles per gal with no change in the way I drive the vehicle.
I don't want to put a chip in it because I don't want to void the warranty.
Any suggestions has to why it would go down hill so fast.
I have 48000 miles on the truck and it is completely stock.
Thanks

Are you buying your diesel fuel some place new? If I buy fuel at different places I can tell the difference in mileage. (Flying J is the worst place for me on mpg, BP Amoco is the best)
Unless you have an extended warranty on the X, the only thing that is still under warranty is the motor. Tranny, xfer case and differentials went out at 36K.
When I bought the programmer, I had 11K on the X. I was also a little worried about my warranty (first diesel), but the only real trouble that I had read was with the tranny. So I thought I would risk it and I now have 31K on the X and the SCMT set on 60hp mode. No regrets at all!!
I mostly buy the gas from th same place , but sometimes i will change due to cost, of course.
I have 48,000 miles but do have an extended warranty that covers everything, bumper to bumper.
Bigfoot, did you buy the computer or the chip for the 60 hp change.
I have the Super Chips Micro Tuner and set it for tow safe 60hp. Personally, I went this route because of the ease of “taking it off” for service and it is harder for the dealer to detect a “chip” from what I have read.
I have tried the "off road" 80 hp and did not notice a big difference between 60 and 80. But from stock to 60 hp the difference is between night and day. Anything but dry pavement and the X will let the 305/70/16 Goodyear’s do the talking when the boost comes on. The better half just shakes her head and says the “Little boys and their toys” routine.
If you do decide to go this route, take a word of advice, do not check your fuel mileage the first couple of tanks of diesel. Mine was terrible because I was like a kid with a new toy.
