fuel gauge issue!
i have an explore with 17.5 gallon tank, and starting to notice something really weird with the fuel gauge. for instance, if the vehicle is parked with fuel gauge reading 1/2 tank, and then the next morning or day after that, i start it up and notice the level falls a tinny bit like 1-3 millimeters of the 1/2 mark. i particularly notice it if the next morning is 10-20 F. degrees cooler than the previous day. i know that fuel becomes more dense with cooler temps but that seems to much, almost like it evaporating away. but what's also weird is that when i average my miles driven per tankful, it averages about what i typically get and doesn't seem to be any lower. but that's probably not a good way to figure this out, because if this so called "fuel evaporation" was not noticeable who knows, i might even get better mileage than what i'm getting now. finally, no lights or error codes triggered, so as far as vehicle management system is concerned, no problems with fuel system or components. i'm working on a personal theory that the fuel in the tank is way colder than the ambient temp, since it has no external insulation and tank is bare, that could allow the tank material to create a "cooler" like atmosphere with colder weather and strong winds, especially if the previous day was warmer and less windy. but my theory is a long shot. has anyone experienced this or know what's going on with explores or any other ford vehicles? any ideas? thanks everyone.
