drop kits... '06 2WD

im tired of sitting high in my XL F150.....now i have seen drops kits anywhere from $320-$1000+ and im curious what others have done... climbing under the truck... i can easily flip the rear spring.... now that would bring the *** down 3"... seeing as i work in a machine shop i can easily make a pair of 2" block and bring it down to a toal of 5"... which is what i want... as for the front... i have seen a pair of 2" drop springs in a small catalogue i have... im just curious if i can do this "poor mans drop kit" or not?? any thoughs? thanx folks

If you decide to drop it more than three inches in the rear Your gonna have to shim the rear-end. Just keep it in mind

And put trailor ***** on upside down to throw sparks. I dropped mine 3 in the rear and 3 in the front. I took it to a place here in Charleston to get it done. the truck rides great and can barelu tell that it was lowered at all.

I had mine lowered, and loved it.

A few things to think about

A rear flip will net you between 6-7 inches of drop. Most kits that flip the axle actually include lift shackles to raise it back up, otherwise youre looking at a C notch if you want axle clearance.

Front springs alone are fine, if you dont drop more than 2 inches. Youll have to slam the alignment all the way out and maybe grind the alignment slots out a little more to gain some more camber.

If you can spring for it, go for a kit. It will come with shims and bump stops and everything youll need.

Eibach makes a nice kit, which is the one I used. It changes the coils and leaf packs and includes lowering shackles as well. Changing the springs will give you a stiffer ride, so if youre lowering for performance its the better way to go.

DJM makes a nice kit too, that reuses the stock springs. You get a flip kit, lift hangars, and front drop control arms. This gets you low and retains the stock ride.

as long as you dont go more than 3.5 in the front and 5 in the back, youll be able to use your stock wheels and tires. i actually went with a little larger tires with my Eibach kit.

cheers

I thought about dropping my 2WD S'Crew all the way around but settled on dropping just the rear. I used the Ground Force 2" rear drop kit (about $75). New rear shackles (and bushings) and wedge shims to set the pinion angle. Now the truck sits level and looks great along with the 20" wheels.

Eibach certainly makes good products so I would bet their lowering kit is a quality setup.

Its pretty good, though I did have a problem with the rear spring bushings needing some grease early on. I would grease them pretty well before installation. In hindsight I may have gone with the DJM kit since I wanted the look and wasnt too concerned about its corner carving ability

Yeah, it sounds like they needed more grease at the point of installation. When I put in the Ground Force rear shackles I used a high quality grease and plenty of it (without going overboard).

I think you made the right choice with the Eibach kit. Better is always better.

unless your wanted to be as low as Jusnes is, I'd say to get some new shackles and just drop the rear 1 1/2 or 2" inches. you can still tuck the 20" just fine and they look real nice at that height.

then you can get the bumper off a FX2 and that looks real nice

I just installed some Ground Force 2" drop shackles.....Anyone thinking of leveling out their truck? I would highly recommend the Ground Force shackles (#91200 for the 2004-2007 F-150). Very nice quality, plus they come with shims to keep the pinion angle correct (this prevents driveline vibration issues). I installed them myself yesterday. Looks great with the 20" wheels. The rear now sits about 1/2-3/4" higher then the rear....perfect. The truck actually handles slightly better then before.
