How about cutting it off close to the ground, dig a few inches deep right around it and hit it with a 12 pound sledge hammer. Probably drive it the rest of the way in.

> theres a peice of rebar in my front yard the state left there and i cant pull it up

Well, it is probably a survey marker and it might be illegal to remove. I would leave it, makes having a survey redone MUCH cheaper if it is a marker. You can still drive it into the ground though.

A smooth ground rod is hard to get a hold on. Rebar is easy. Try wrapping a chain around it. Then just pull it out with a high lift jack. A ground rod usually has a steel core with a copper plate that would make it difficult to weld.

tdister did say "rebar", and 1/2" (#4) at that.

Me? I'd wrap a chain around it and pull it out with my 81 F150; in compound low.

I love beer.

Ahh I see that little addition to his post now, lost it in the sig jumble etc, -thanks!

Rebar is easier to hold on to but then if a tree root has grown around it it can make it tough.

If it doesn't pull then cutting it off below ground is easiest.

I had the same problem, What I did was take some pliers and inch it up useing a small block for leverage. Worked great for me, give it a try.

I would drill a hole in some scrap plywood (for a base), slip it over the rod, put a jack on it and jack it out.

I use a bumper jack, a length of chain, and vise grips to keep the chain from slipping on the rod.

I agree with cutting it off and pounding the remaining piece farther into the ground.
