Over the winter I changed my speedometer from a Autometer Mech to a Autometer Electronic. I thought it would be easier to get closer to the actual speed I was going with the electronic one (AOD trans).
Well I am taking the truck on a short trip Friday so I thought this would be a great time to adjust the speedo. It seems it had other ideas. Filled the truck with premium gas and the price must have scared the thing because when I left the station the speed o went to zero and the trip meter went blank but it still has a light just no numbers.
Anyone have a idea what happen? I will call Autometer Monday but in the mean time I just wondered if this type on failure has happened to anyone else.
What does the speedometer have for electrical connections? Mine has a two wires for power on for the light and one for everything else. Did you check the fuses and the power connections? Maybe you shook something loose from the shock of gas prices.
yes, the light is on a separate circuit from the speedo, did the wire fall off the tranny sender? Does the gauge power run thru a fuse, is it good? Do you have a circuit tester light or a VOM? disconnect the power lead from the gauge and make sure it has power.
Is the gauge grounded with it's own ground wire? If not and the power lead has power try attaching a temp jumper ground wire from the housing to a good clean ground point.
One truism about electronics is that if they are going to fail it's usually very early in their life.
