Talked with Dusty at BDP on the phone today as I am having some troubles with the D66 leaking oil on the intake side. Called him up and explained the situation and he told me I needed to preform a CCV mod and he also informed me that the "red" rubber intake tube at the turbo inlet is a garbage part and needs to be updated to the black tube. I have some questions as follow;
Have any of you preformed the CCV mod? thoughts on it and is it worth it?
Any thoughts about this intake tube upgrade he mentioned?
I have not done the ccv reroute yet because I dont have an intercooler in there yet. I dont see any downside in it being in the intake without an intercooler to plug up. The orange tube is known to crack and is thinner material than the black updated one. ford wants like $100 for their "kit" to replace it. My orange one is fine and I didnt want to spend $100 so its still there.
Are you getting oil on the outside of the turbo? or just in the intake
Oil is seeping through the intake housing at the seems.
Good to know about the Intake kit. When I had mine off at turbinator install time, I made sure to check the tubes for wear and any cracking and it looked just fine. I was thinkin maybe it had something to do with intake air flow. Thought maybe I could pick up a few ponies.....lol
Are you sure its not an oring for the oil supply lines for the turbo? If oil is comming out of the intake housing seal then you are losing a lot of boost through there too.
Its not gobbs of oil, just a seep. It just dusts the housing. I checked with BDP and he suggested the CCV mod. He said that the CCV was just dumping oil into the turbinator and it was just finding its way out. Oil likes to explore and find new seals to muck up. Im not loosing any boost, I cant hear or see a boost leak. Thats why I say its seeping out. A minuet amount is all
yes on both account. CCV and updated intake boot on my truck. The CCV mod is worth it in my book. had it done prior to the IC and on my last truck. I will soon be plumbing the CCV tube into the exhuast cause it stinks when it comes up by the door. also my puts off alot of vapor so I don't like my truck smoking from the underside. The performance gains are from opening up the intake. The hump where the CCV dumps intot he intake is a pretty good restriction. so you then get the updated intake hose (mine was free!) then add a 3 or 4" long peice of 4" exhuast pipe as the connector to your new turbo boot and your existing intake. Study my pics and you should be able to see what it looks like. if you want more pics to clarify let me know and I can snap them tomorrow. If you ever have a chance look at a stock superduty. you will notice all the oily build up around the IC boots. this is all due to the CCV. eliminating the CCV in the intake also helps keep your rubber boots sealed nice and tight and not slipping off.
right now I am using 3/4 or 5/8 heater hose. I will running it to just behind the t-case. i will weld about a foot of pipe into the exhaust pipe angled in then put the hose on the pipe. I might use an emissions check valve found on my air pumped gas engines of the mid 90's. I have heard from many superduty guys that old garden hose works very well.
mainly vapor. its best to route the hose over the vacum booster first so any oil will drain back. I have mine coming right off the CCV housing and I get a drip or two but not much
