Right now we have the same hitch the truck came with and the hitch the trailer came with. Also the sway is horible and that is also why we are up grading.

Do you live in south California or around there? There is a company called Eckharts that makes a 2 1/2 hitch that would be just what you want. Only problem is you need to take the Ex there for them to put it in. The damn thing is a BEAST.

Alternatively you can have a pullrite hitch installed locally. It is also a towing monster and you will have NO (nada nope zero not a chance) sway because of the way it works like a fifth wheel hitch. It has a 20000 lb rating.

They are both class 5 weight class. Which one were you referring to?

The Eckhart is a standart type reciever that replaces the one you currently have. any sway problems will still be there. Prices are about 600 dollars


The Pullrite is a totally different way of hitching up for a standard trailer. It basically turns your trailer into a fifth wheel that has the gooseneck under the truck. Maneuvering is just like a fith wheel. It includes a built in weight distribution system. You can buy one and put it in yourself, or your local hitch shop or RV dealer can do it. The price is steep, at around 2 grand, but the sway will be totally gone for a properly loaded trailer.

About your sway, Is your tongue weight loaded 10 to 15 % of your loaded trailer weight? If it is, you should not sway under normal conditions, but you still could get sway from a passing truck or side gust. The pullrite will eliminate any of this.

You can't order anything stock for the Excursion. The receiver is a built in safety feature and nobody wants to take on the liability of making an aftermarket product to replace it.

You have very limited choices...have one custom made (if you can find someone) or go to the Pullrite which has already been mentioned.

I've looked myself for one in the past, those are your choices in my opinion. Or get a lighter trailer.

I just called Eckhart and they have a hitch that can pull 20,000 that is ausome.

That may be the case but that doesn't mean you should. I guess I'm a safety-****. I think the 15K trailer is too much weight to safely tow with your truck. That means you should be running close to 2250# tongue weight. That EXCEEDS your available payload capacity and you're not even driving it yet!

Anyway...I'm not your father.

As far as sway is concerned most folks who use the Hensley Arrow hitch swear by it. http://www.hensleymfg.com/

If the only thing wrong with your hitch is the elongated holes...well...and welder worth his salt can fix that for you and make it stronger ta boot.
