Hi, i have an 89 Bronco 4x4 and i'm having trouble removing the manual locking hubs. I need to change my rotors and i've got the first half of the locking hubs off but can't get the rest out. Do i need some sort of puller to get these out. Also once out how does the rotor split from the hub. Any help appreciated
Thanks Jamie
hi, if i remember correctly, there is a circlip that holds the front hub gears in place. there should be a groove with a spring wire clip riding in it, you need to find the split, hold the clip and pry it up and out. the locking assembly will all slide out. the rotor is held on with a outer locknut, lockwasher [with holes in it] and an inner locknut, you need a special socket with 4 teeth on it to remove the locknuts. a friend happened to have the one i needed, my manual refers to two #'s early models no.t59t-1197-b later models d85t-1197-a but i would call your dealer tell then what front axle you have and they can tell you which socket to get. good luck
etc is right. the ring clip may or may not have ears for a set of snap ring pliers. mine did not and it took me an hour to find the clip, b/c it was covered in grease. wipe out all of the grease on the inner wall of the hub and you will find it. the clip almost requires three hands. just be patient.
