6 speed removal heeelllllllpppppp!!!

After replacing the hyd clutch assembly, I have come to the conclusion that the throwout bearing is out or out of place. The clutch pedal won't budge with the slave cyl. in the tranny. Its at 160,000 mi and I pull and pull in OD so I guess its due for a clutch pack anyway.

Any tips for removing the tranny/transfer case as one unit. Looks to be simple, but I am worried about supporting the rearend of the 7.3. SBC's I have always put a 2X6 under the oil pan and used a hyd jack to hold the engine up, I was planning to do the same or will the oil pan crumble under the 7.3's weight.

I've looked under FAQ's but have'nt found a link, anyone got a good link for info. Thanks a bunch, CCC.

You may have better luck asking this in the 7.3L forum, because not all the guys there look around in here too often. Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks beerstalker, I was just checking out the clutch, tranny, and transfer case forum also, but they don't have a FAQ section. CCC

Most times it is quicker and easier to pull the engine forward enough to get at the clutch then it is to pull the transmission/transfer case assembly, maybe you should look at going that route.

I just replaced the clutch in my 4x4 7.3. The 7.3 is balanced pretty well when the transmission is removed. I put wood blocks on jack stands, both front and rear. They had about 1/4" to 1/8" clearance, and the engine didn't touch either one. I kept the transfer case married to the transmission, and 2 of us had no problem man handling it, on a big floor jack of course. 3 people or a tranny jack would've been safer. As for your throwout bearing issue, it very well could be shot. BUT if you have a pre-2002 MY it could be your clutch fork! Which of course requires tranny removal to replace. Be sure to have a spare pivot ($4) when you go in there. Mine was partially broken.
