Ok, i have a 79' F100. It has an 84' F150 tranny in it currently. 4 speed. im wanting to convert it to a 5 (or 6 speed if possible)i have a 302 that i just rebuilt. Along with the rearend. what im wanting to know is what trans. would be best? I was looking into the M50D but i wans sure how it held under a lot of torque. so what would be best. I am aware of the conversion from manual clutch to a hyd. clutch and have a doner 95' F150 for that. along with the trans. choice what rear gears will need to be used? i have 3.93's currently. Thanks for the help.
Unless your 302 is warmed up quite a bit and unless you plan to side-step the clutch, the Mazda trans would work. The ZF will also work, and is heavier and has a lower first gear.
Depending on tire size, either would work fine with 3.73s or 3.93s or even 4.10s.
Of course, any used trans needs to have the shift forks inspected, and make sure the synchros still work, and that it hasn't been run low on oil.
The Mazda box has some plugs up top that leak--slowly, but enough over time to cause problems. Be sure those are replaced when you do the install.

when you changed the tranny what more things you needed change.
and sorry for my english is relaly poor i´m still learnig.
The ZF feels like a 4sp, with an overdrive gear. It's meant for F-350's. It's the strongest manual Ford offered. It will feel just like a T-19, but with a 5th gear.
The Mazda is much smaller/lighter duty but way more fun to drive. You can shift the gears a little quicker. The gear spacing feels alot different. Feels more like a car.
With a 2WD I would go with the Mazda. They say they are weak, but I disagree. You just have to know how to drive. Unless you have a real healthy motor, or a 4X4 with big tires they hold up fine......An try not to side step it TOOO much.
