The only automatic transmission offered on F100/350's from 1966 thru 1976 on 352/360/390 engines was a C-6. The C-6 transmission was first introduced for model year 1966.
Only the 1965 F100/350 352's was offered with a C-4, and those are few and far between, as most came with the MX Cruise-O-Matic.

All FE 352/360/390 engines from 1966 to 1976 used the C-6 transmission.
1976 was the last year Ford used FE engines.
Any idea why they continued to use both the C4 and C6 in Ford trucks? It would seem to me that it would be cheapier to just discontinue the C4 when the C6 was introduced. This leads me to another question...I know there was also a C5 and I've never heard anyone having one of these in a truck, so were they used mainly in cars? Sorry about all these questions, just curious. I had always just assumed that C4 came first and then it was replaced by the C5 and it was replaced by the C6, and it was replaced by the AOD, etc., etc. Thanks for clearing things up for me NumberDummy.

Truck automatic transmissions (year introduced in light trucks)
Ford-O-Matic 2 speed (1953)
Ford-O-Matic 3 speed (1957)
Cruise-O-Matic (MX version) (1959)
Cruise-O-Matic (C-4 version) (1964-Econoline/1965 F series)
The C-5 confusion: Ford never had a C-5 till 1980, but some of the non Ford shop manuals refered to 1970's C-4's as a C-5. A C-5 is a revamped C-4. Both the older C-4 and the newer (and short lived) C-5 were used in the 1980's.
C-4's were introduced in 1964 for the Ford small block 221/260/289 engines, which when introduced in 1962 (289-1963). Prior to C-4's, these engines used the anemic 2 speed Ford-O-Matic. C-4's were used in 1965 on both the 240/300 I-6 and the 352's. There was a good reason for using the C-4's in this year. There was a shortage of MX Cruise-O-Matics. When the 302 was introduced into F Series trucks in 1969, it came with a C-4. Some 302's used a C-6 later.

Thanks NumberDummy! you really know your Ford history. One last question...Are there large performance/durability differences between the C4 and the C6?

The C-6 is one of the best autos made by anyone. It's usually trouble free, and very durable. The C-4's are fine for what they were designed for...Ford small blocks.
