Avoid doing this!!!

I put another ding in my truck on Sunday...and to make it worse, I did it because I was not paying attention.

I had washed the truck and decided to raise the hood so I could wipe the grill to remove water spots.................except I forgot to put my wipers back down on the windshield. When I wash the truck it's easier to pull the wipers away from the windshield to wash the whole windshield.

The passenger wiper dropped itself back into place but the drivers side put a ding in the back end of the hood and did not drop back to the windshield. Of course when I was raising the hood I could feel it contact the wiper and heard the clunk as the passenger side dropped down....but I actually didn't realize what I had done and pushed the hood up a little harder until I realized it wasn't going to fully raise and I lowered it to see what the problem was.

Now I have to go buy touchup paint. (*%^!#%$@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think i've done this probably half a dozen times as well... Fortunately my paint is still holding up, as the arms always go down upon contact with the hood. Atleast we can lift our arms all the way up... those poor Dodge guys...

Sorry to hear about your mishap, that sucks. Speaking of wipers, did you put the 24 inchers on? I did and every time I raise them to clean the windshield they bump the antenna. Do the make 23" blades, I didn't look. Little things like that annoy the heck out of me.

It wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't put a chip and in the paint on the hood AND notched the metal!

That sucks. Even if you try and be careful, there'll always be that one time when you forget something. Try looking at it this way: there are a whole lot of worse things in this world.

I did the exact same thing to my (7 month old) 2005 Mustang GT back when I had it, I forgot to put the wipers down and I lifted the hood(it doesnt have struts to lift its self, use's a prope rod), and noticed there was some resistance...then I thought "Oh...crap!!", just paint damage but I felt like an idiot for a while. I feel for yah, hope its an easy fix.

Thank you. I had no idea it would do that. I think I just assumed they'd miss each other (the hood & wipers) or drop back in place.

Ya know guys, thats what I love about this site...we all get to commiserate with the unlucky driver who hurts his truck. We just get to learn without hurting our own!

Thanks for sharing my pain and letting me laugh at myself.

not sure about the 23" ones, but they had 26" ones when I bought my 24"ers and I couldof gotten away with the 26" one on the passenger side no prob. I will do that next time. I hate buying little things like that. In fact that is the second set of wipers that I have ever bought in my life, and the first set was when I was 16 (13 years ago). Shocks are another thing that I have never bought a truck rides bad no matter what condition the shocks are in imo. My dad will complain about his shocks and after he replaces them I cannot tell the differance. I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

I remember when I did the first real damage to my 96' one year when I was plowing. I was backing out of a driveway, and it was kinda tight and when I looked in my big blind spot on my passenger side towing mirror and then in the rearview mirror I seen nothing in either. So I continued to bac out and then bam!!! the truck cam to a dead stop. I turned my head and seen a power pole right at the pass side rear!! so I got out to look at it and it just hit the far edge of the rear bumper pushed it into the bed and wrinkled the bed side out over the wheelwell!! I just about got sick right there. It haunted me in my dreams for weeks, but shortly after that it was on. That truck was never nice again.
