I have a 03 250 v10 with a 6 speed, extra cab long bed. I love my truck. It runs like new and is fast. I just went to a dealer to see if they could find me a 05 or newer 250 w/v10,6 speed club cab short bed. I was wondering if the 3v run as well as the 2v or if they have prblems the 2v's dont. Also how does the coils up front work? Better or worse than the leafs? Any advice would be very helpful. Dont even know if dealer will be able to find what i want. They seen confident but i dont think they will be able to find one.
ive heard the coils up front make the ride much more plush, and the 3v motors have new heads, which flow 20%?? better..thats just a guess, but the 3v 5.4's are different dawgs than the 2valvers and i would imagine the same for the bseg's!
There were some early issues with the fly-by-wire throttle, but PCM reflashes took care of that. If you do get one, I'd make sure it has the latest flash done to it.
I'm habitually pessimistic when it comes to anything "new", so coils are not my favorite thing on the new ones. The "death wobble" doesn't seem to have effected many V10's...
A technical note: Ford has said the 3-valve modular heads flow "almost" as good as the 4-valve heads.
But overall? Everyone here has been VERY happy with their 3-valve V10's. I can't think of one complainer ... which is amazing in and of itself
Sounds good, but i not sure if it is worth getting rid of my lifted 03 to opp for an 05 just for the sake of a 3v. Are they that much better or should i stick with the 03 2v? How easy/hard is it to lift the 05s? My 03 was very simple.
I've heard that the 3v dont like it when or dont respond as good with modifications. Exhaust,Cold air kit,ect....
Asked for a lariat, but dont know if it's worth the extra money. I have an xlt know. Any major differences? Thanks for any advice.

I'd keep your 03'. If you buy a used 05' you really don't know what your getting. You know what shape your 03' is in. For under $2k you could do mods to your 2V to get as much if not more power than the stock 3V.
It has been said numerous times that the 3V do not respond like the 2V to mods basically because of the improvments made in the manifolds, y-pipe and exhaust.
Basically the difference with the Lariet vs XLT is the leather seating and different wheels with the Lariet. The Lariet comes with some features standard that are options on the XLT.
Lifting an 05' should be very similar to lifting your 03' except instead of leafs you have coils. Both trucks use solid front axles. Indepentant front susp. are the harder ones to lift.
I question if you can really "mod a 2-valve and get the same power as a 3-valve".
Sure, peak torque, peak HP, you might be able to free up enough foot-pounds to make up the difference, but the torque curve will NEVER be as flat as the 3-valve.
The 3-valve, in my opinion, without even ever driving one, can do more "work" than the 2-valve. Ever.
Unless you put a blower on the 2-valve, you're never getting the flat torque curve of the 3-valve.
That said, I say stay with your 2003. Unless like you said, the dealer give you the "offer you can't refuse" - an even bigger BSEG!!!!
I owned a 2000 2 valver and now a 2006 3 valver. The new truck is WAY more truck, and Art is right, a modded 2-v will never get close to a stock 3-v.
As far as lifting it, that's a piece of cake too. There are several companies out there making kits for the '05 and up S/D. In stock trim it rides way nicer than the leaf front end does.
Only you can decide if it's worth it or not. That question is realtive to how much money you have, how much you want to spend, and the difference you're looking at to make the trade up.
