3v V10 questions, pros and cons of the 05-07 F350's

Hey all. I have a 01 supercab, 8' bed, F350, 4x4 with a v10 and a 5 speed and 4:30 gears. I really love my truck but it's getting a bit old and am thinking of upgrading. I'm looking for the exact same combo in a 05-07. Is the 3v v10 as good an engine as the 2V? What problems etc. should I look for? Hows the mileage on them? I really want a stick, did they still have the 5 speed or do I go to a 6 speed manual? Any info would be great, I don't like the look of the 08 and up trucks much.

Its a six speed in those years. It has more power and the spark plugs are a two piece design so its not as sturdy. I hear the come apart when you take them out

Can the two part plugs be replaced with single piece ones?

My build date is 9-07 and I have the one piece plugs. My brother had a '05 V10 with the manual trans and I was not very impressed with it. My 08 V10 automatic would run away from his manual trans even though I weigh 3000lbs more. The '05 and newer auto transmissions, especially in the gas engines, are very good at shifting when they are supposed to. I do however prefer the manual in the Diesel.

I have an '08 with the 5 speed automatic and wouldn't trade it for a hand shaker no matter what. Not only does it shift great, especially with Mike's 5 Star tuner, but think about texting, drinking coffee, finding Rush Limbaugh on the radio and shifting all at the same time. The Ford Torqueshift is a boss tranny.

I've been driving a 01. v10 with 5 speed and 4:30 gears for years and absolutely love it. except for the damn exaust manifold studs! I also have an 06 E350 4x4 van with a v10, 5 speed auto, 4:11 gears. The 5 speed out pulls the torque-shift trans. I would like to find as close to my exact truck as possible only in a 05-07 style F350.

Not interested in an auto, I know what they are and have always had a stick in my real truck.

From hearing what fellow FTE guys claim for fuel mileage, I'm convinced the 2 valve motors seem to get slightly better fuel mileage then the 3 valve motors..

Good luck on your hunt!
