alright guys, i feel like an idiot ... i took my tonneau cover off my truck during the fall last year, and just recently put it back on ... sounds fine right ? well, when i put it on, the tail gate was up, and i let it go (while it was raised) and it shut closed ... now i cant open it ... theres maybe a 1inch gap from the gate to the tip of the cover ... i can see and play with the locking mechanism, but thats all, i cant actually play with the latches on each side of the bed which hold it down ... any ideas on opening it ? haha
Since I don't have a cover on mine, I'm shooting in the dark here....
Is the gap big enough to slide a flat bladed screwdriver into? If that's too big (thick) there are all sorts of things on the shop bench that would work.
well where the locking/handle mech is, there is enough to get a screw driver to somewhat jimmy the system in there. The driver and passenger side of the bed unfortunately cannot be accessed where the actual locks themselves are ...
I'm having trouble understanding why you are unable to open the tailgate. Does the cover engage the tailgate or the stake holes in the bed? If you can open the tailgate you should be able to access the couple of small holes formed on each stake box hole to allow you to poke a small rod into and manipulate the locks.
Do the locks engage the stake hole or a locking unit that's dropped into the stake hole? Even if the locking unit is dropped into the stake hole can it not be pried up to remove it?
