i dont think the iac affects gas milage, but i do know that it can affect how your vehicle returns to idle. you can usually clean the old one and make it work. as for parts, i dont feel that the factory parts are better than the replacement.
If the IAC is bad the truck won't start without your foot on the gas and won't idle at all.
IAC's are also very easy to service. If you remove it and spray a little WD on the valve, then actuate it with a pair of needle nose it will generally free up and not need to be replaced.
WOW,the hits just keep coming with this truck I went out to try the wd trick for the IAC and on restart my overdrive light comes on I am just loving it
My experience is that gas mileage can take a hit if the iac keeps the idle up too much when slowing down - if you do stop n go type driving, it can cut into mileage 1 or 2 mpg.
incomplete sentence in my last post I mean it comes on and is flashing(the overdrive light)
I believe the flashing OD light indicates something is wrong in your transmission. Shut engine off, restart and see if it comes back on. If the light keeps coming on then you might want to check it out further.
the truck is trying to drive me crazy.I took it to autozone this morning to see if they could read the code and when I left there the light (o/d) stayed off. My biggest problem at this time is the rough idle and the fact that it doesn't idle down when at a stop, seems to keep a really high idle when the defrost / a/c is on. I think the main problem is I bought a peice of s#@^ so I will have to keep up the fight.....BTW I really have enjoyed and appreciated all the input
first off, even if the light goes off it doesnt mean the code is gone. it is still stored in the computer. second, you need an obdII scanner to read the code, autozone cant read these
