Does anyone know of a web site that decodes Ford Truck VINs?
I am considering buying a truck at an auction and the VINs are posted on the website with a BRIEF description of the truck. I am interested in engine size, rear ends, whatever else I can learn from the VIN.
Manufacturer & Nation of Origin: Ford Motor Company, USA
Model Year 1997
Model Line (including Series & Body Type) F-150 SuperCab Styleside 4x4
Engine (including Size, Cylinders & Fuel Type) 5.4L EFI-SOHC, eight cylinder
Brake Type & Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 6,001 to 7,000 lbs
Assembly Plant Kansas City (Claycomo, Missouri)
Check Digit 0
Sequential Production Number D3883
I used carfax.com to check out my truck before I bought it. It gives you options, vehicle history etc. after you type in VIN. They charge a small fee for a single search or you can subscribe. I like it.
